Other than a warm Sunday night with a 5.0 earthquake that jolted the Southland, the grounds of Orange County shook all weekend long with events galore. The 12th Annual Doheny Blues rocked Dana Point May 16-17 with 3 stages of solid blues, booze, great food, lots of fun people and of course the great bands:
B.B. King • Brian Setzer & The Nashvillains • The Derek Trucks Band • The Keb’ Mo’ Band • Elvin Bishop with special guest John Németh • Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings • Buckwheat Zydeco • Grace Potter & The Nocturnals • Tommy Castro Band • John Hammond • Rick Estrin & The Nightcats… and tons more!
With a total of 26 performances on 3 stages plus Wahoo’s rockin’ the VIP area backstage behind the Main Stage area! Proceeds from all alcohol sales in the VIP area benefitted the Festival of Children Foundation. Who could ask for anything more? To top it off they hosted a BIKE VALET with Paul of the OC MUDRUN and encouraged everyone to ride their bike to the show and keep it GREEN! In turn, Nirve Biycles donated 2 hot beach cruisers to be given away to one lucky each winner each day of the show!

But wait! That’s not at all . . . Steve Vandoren and crew took it to the next level with the Vans Pro Tec Pool Party at the Vans Skate Park in the Block of Orange. Being a private event and invite only, Vans turned hosted a live streaming video of the entire event for the world to see! If you were one of the lucky ones to get a special invite, not only did you get to watch the pro of all pros compete, you also got to enjoy a delicious lunch by Wahoo’s Fish Taco and Steve Vandoren’s world famous hamburgers!
“The atmosphere was light and fun, the give-a-way’s were free flowing, the skating was intense and it was the replica of the late Pipeline combi bowl that brought us all there! The event included a 20 Minute Women’s Jam session and the Masters Pro Jam session. But, the highlight was the Van Doren ‘Block for Bucks’ and the Pro Mens Finals. Four pros where whizzing around the combi bowl at any one time – very intense and super fun to watch.” says Silly Girl’s Jamie Gaudio.
Lots of shwag goodies were given away as well as all the top Vans pro skaters were there to compete and sign autographs. My good friend, Jamie Parker Gaudio aka SILLY GIRL Designs was there to represent and posted all the pics for all to see. To see more pics, click the pic below or click here to read more on the event and to check out the videos!
